She comprehensively deals with the challenges of digital transformation for law and ethics. In Cologne, she founded an interdisciplinary research center that deals with these issues.
Contribution to Legal Tech
She also founded the Legal Tech Lab Cologne as scientific director – a student research group that deals with legal tech from a variety of perspectives. In North Rhine-Westphalia, she heads the KI.NRW project, which is funded by the state government and is concerned with the development of a certificate for the trustworthy use of artificial intelligence. In Cologne, she also heads the project “The electronic (criminal) courtroom of the future”, which also uses artificial intelligence technology, among other things.
In cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute IAIS, she is currently developing a legal tech tool for the area of judicial sentencing (“Smart Sentencing”), which uses Natural Language Processing in relation to German legal language. Rostalski is a member or advisory expert in a large number of scientific associations and advisory bodies, in which she is also committed to digitization – not least in the legal sector. Examples include the German Ethics Council, the Learning Systems Platform and the AI Observatory.
